We have experienced that one of the more difficult steps when it comes to decorating at home is to choose and hang pictures on the walls. We have dedicated this entire website to this very problem, and on this page you will find lots of inspiration and tips on how to proceed. There are many decisions that need to be made, such as how many picture frames, which frames, prints, positions and distances between frames. Hopefully these articles make the work a little bit easier, and if you find an example here that you like you can use it directly or make your own variation of it.

Selecting the type of frame
To make it easier to choose what type of frame you want on the wall, we have gathered some ideas on how to proceed. A common strategy is to choose discreet frames that do not add a new color or a new material to the room. For instance by choosing black or white wooden frames, since they are neutral in both color and material. It can also be very nice to try to match the frame with other furniture, for example if you have white straight lines in the legs of a dining table, white frames can give a complementary effect on the wall. You can also match, for example, dark wooden furniture with dark wooden frames. Many interior design styles also often go well with certain types of frames, and if you use a certain style you can find inspiration from the interior style. For example, you could have copper or silver frames in an industrial or rustic interior style.

Selecting prints
When it's time to choose prints, there are a few different methods that we recommend. One method is to have a clear color theme between the prints themselves, and between prints and other furniture and decor. For example if you use an orange color in several different prints, they will match nicely with each other, and if you complement with for instance orange pillows it becomes a uniform theme that takes life outside the pictures as well. In addition you can match with a complementary color as well, for example by using both orange and blue. You can also choose prints with matching content themes, for example if you match ocean prints and prints with beaches, aquatic animals and palm trees. To have a clear theme but without it becoming too much you can also introduce neutral prints in between that may be black and white or generally just have discreet colors in themselves and much white space in the picture.

White margin and passepartout
The next step is to choose whether you want a white margin or a passepartout above the picture. This is used to tone down pictures that could have been very colorful if they covered the entire frame, and they give a feeling that the print is more a work of art than a print. The difference between a white border and a passepartout is that a passepartout is a piece of cardboard placed on top of the picture, while a white margin means that the picture is printed in a smaller size with white around the image.
